Since our inception, we have fielded a lot of questions and misconceptions about our platform of helping local Minnesota families and their kids. We hope that this detailed blog will help to dispel those misconceptions and further answer any questions moving forward.
TOP 5 MISCONCEPTIONS Of Dollar Per Christian (501c3 Nonprofit)
1. I did not go to or send my children to a private Christian school, so therefore why would I donate to Christian education causes? Good question…
We believe this may be one of our largest misconceptions /questions to date. Let us do our best to explain our answer to why ALL Christians should consider donating to our Mission. First, we need to be 100% clear, we are NOT here to persuade anyone to send their kid to a private K-12 Christian school, and we know that there are many, many ways and options in raising kids and building a solid Christian foundation. What we ARE here for is to help those families that are desperately seeking a Christian education for their kid(s), but simply just cannot afford it. Our sole goal is to help those already interested or in need of this for their children, to have an opportunity to provide it for them. Again, we know that there are various numbers of ways to raise kids with a solid Christian foundation, and we respect everyone’s decisions in this process. Our unique platform at DPC allows for Christians to easily help fellow Christians in need, and by uniting, TOGETHER for only $1 per month, we can help our State and World become a better place one child at a time.
2. Private school families do not need additional funds. FALSE:
The majority of private K-12 schools in Minnesota have large percentages of their students on some type of financial aid/assistance. That percentage of enrollment receiving assistance tends to correlate directly with the average income or poverty levels of the communities each school draws from for enrollment. Some schools have as high as 80-90% of their students on some type of financial assistance.
3. Private Religious Schools always close due to low enrollment levels; therefore, it is solely the responsibility of each school to keep enrollment up. FALSE:
As stated in misconception #2 above, some schools in very poor communities have solid enrollment numbers; they just cannot get the tuition needed to survive operational costs. These schools often offer tuition “discounts” in these poverty-stricken communities to help families provide a Christian education for their children, and in doing so they often times cannot keep up with the expense of operating a school. Therefore, since religiously affiliated schools cannot receive government funds, they need help from local business, foundations, church communities, and nonprofits like Dollar Per Christian. Dollar Per Christian is ultimately hoping to help many of these schools from closing their doors forever.
4. You have to be Christian to receive our scholarship award funds. FALSE:
Our fund’s distribution is through a third party and awarded based on the needs of the family’s applying directly through partnering Christian K – 12 Schools. Once a student has been officially accepted by a partnering school, they become eligible for our funds through that school’s standard tuition assistance process.
5. You must be Christian to donate. FALSE:
Our original numbers and goals at DPC were calculated and based on the total number of Christians in Minnesota as potential donors, but we do not exclude any individual donations towards our cause of helping local Minnesota kids.
OK, we know that some of these misconceptions and explanations may not fit or relate to everyone reading this blog, we just felt the need to communicate what we have learned and experienced since launching our Mission a short time ago. As always, please feel free to reach out with questions or concerns at any time.
